Sierra Leone is warmly welcoming and English-speaking, which removes the usual language barrier for the region, and its beaches are excellent and uncrowded. Day-to-day logistics take effort. Power and internet cuts are common, internet is very slow, malaria is a real health consideration, and travel between towns is slow. Freetown is manageable with normal city caution, and costs rise quickly once you move from local rentals to accommodation aimed at expats. The country rewards patience more than convenience. The dry season from November to April is the easier period, ideally with backup power and a malaria plan.
