Malawi's appeal has long been Lake Malawi: clear, fresh water lined with relaxed lakeshore villages where long-stay travellers gather. The country is very low in cost and known for its friendliness. Infrastructure is the trade-off. Internet is extremely slow, even in the main towns, flights are limited, and malaria precautions matter, especially around the lake. Petty theft is the main concern in the cities. The local currency has lost a lot of value in recent years, so prices in older guides are out of date. There is no nomad visa. This suits slow travel more than dependable remote work, in the dry season from May to October.
