Top cities

Grand BaiePopular

North-coast expat hub; best nightlife & dining, but pricier & touristy.

West-coast beach town; relaxed, water sports, lower CoL than Grand Baie.

Laid-back upscale surf area; nature & outdoors, fewer amenities.

Port LouisCapital

Capital & largest; markets, museums, cheap suburbs, but congested & no beach (business hub, weaker base).

Climate

Tropical maritime; warm and humid year-round, with a hot, wetter summer (Nov–Apr) and a cooler, drier winter.

Transit

Mauritius has an extensive, inexpensive bus network covering most of the island, now complemented by the modern Metro Express light-rail line linking Port Louis with Curepipe. Services can be slow and infrequent in rural areas, so many residents and visitors rent cars or scooters. The island is small enough that buses and ride-hailing cover most everyday needs.
